The Can Silvestre Standards
These are not rules to govern your stay, but a projection of our collective ethos—a set of cultural behaviors reflecting our shared values as artists and guests of this house.
We operate on a philosophy of conscious consumption. We respect the materials we use and the waste we generate, ensuring that what comes from the earth returns to it without harm. We reduce, we compost, and we live plastic-free to keep our footprint invisible.
1
M.O.O.E. (Matter Out Of Earth)
We value the "here and now". By minimizing digital noise for personal media, we stay present with our surroundings and our community. We choose human connection and sensory experience over the distractions of the outside world, ensuring that our attention remains anchored in the beauty of the immediate moment.
2
The Gift Of Presence
Most answers only come from silence, yet it is a species in extinction. At Can Silvestre, we protect this endangered resource for deep work. We offer silence as a gift to our peers, honoring their creative processes and spaces. By using headphones for personal media and keeping our voices low, we ensure the shared airwaves remain clear for inspiration.
3
The Great Silence
We treat all living beings as part of our shared ecosystem. Our table is a place of vegetarian connection where we honor the environment and our health through mindful, communal meals. We join together to prepare and share nourishment, recognizing that the energy we put into our bodies is the fuel for the art we bring into the world.
4
We Are Nature
We align our energy with the natural rhythms of the sun and the house. We embrace the restorative power of quiet hours—from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am—to protect our collective rest. We rise with purpose and rest with the shadows, using the light of the day for our most active tasks and showers to respect the house's aging systems.
5
Natural Law
We arrive at Can Silvestre carrying a distinct creative energy within us. The purpose of this space is to quiet the external static—the digital noise and demands of the daily grind—to create the necessary expansive space. In this stillness, we give ourselves permission to listen to that true Inner Voice that is too often drowned out by the world. We recognize that the external silence is the necessary container for this internal conversation.
6
The Inner Voice
We are a collective of creators who believe that many hands make light work. We actively help one another, from assisting with meal preparation to ensuring our shared spaces remain clean and welcoming for the next person. We move beyond individual existence into a spirit of creative cooperation, where supporting the house is an act of supporting each other.
